Self-Care for Solopreneurs
Just Your Luck...
The Self-Care issue of Solopreneur Insights falls on my week for writing the intro. Maybe next month, we'll feature Sam Bankman-Fried on building a successful crypto business.
OK, it's not that bad. I've learned a lot over the years. But there was a time when I did just about everything wrong in this department. Here's a partial list of my sins:
Being proud of working until midnight and waking up at 5:00 AM
Not having a good system (OK, not having ANY system) to keep track of what I was doing
Not taking time to organize my stuff
Not exercising
Eating poorly
The result of these were:
Being tired all the time which resulted in not working efficiently.
Constantly stressing and waking up in the middle of the night remembering something I forgot to do (thereby exacerbating #1).
Spending precious time looking for things.
Feeling crappy and lacking energy.
See #4.
But over the years, I've made changes:
Work ends at 6:00 (OK, 6:30 sometimes). Bedtime at 10:30 PM, up at 6:30 AM.
I started jogging 20+ years ago. Now do some weights and a rowing machine sometimes.
I tried vegan, but yeah... no. Lots of veggies, eggs, and lean meats. Minimal processed foods. I do like my cheese, though.
Full confession - I've fallen off the wagon a bit since we moved, especially on #4. But I got back on today with a weightlifting session, so there's that.
Check out the content here if you recognize yourself in my failings—there are many good ideas from people with much more self-care cred than I'll ever have. If you won't do it for yourself, do it for those who care about you.
Solo Together,
Joe Rando
